Punched Flower Tutorial

I have done a quick tutorial on how to make these dahlia-type flowers.  I was playing – as you do – whilst demonstrating at one of the shows and quite liked the look of this flower. 

Tools needed:
Large and medium Retro Flower punches
Distress Ink and applicator (my hubby made me 36 of these – a huge money saver that I could spend on more stash lol)
An embossing tool and mat (I use a piece of lino)
Pokey tool
Bone Folder


To make the large flower punch out 2 each of the small and large flowers (I used 1 patterned paper and one plain). and ink around the edges.

Curl each petal over a bone folder to give shape and movement to the petals

Indent the centre of each flower and pierce a hole in the centre for the brad

Pinch the points of each petal tightly

Give them a good spritz with Glimmer Mist and then assemble – layer the two small flowers on top of each other (patterned paper at the top) then then layer on top of the large flowers and hold together with a brad.  Once the Glimmer Mist dries it seems to firm up the paper so the flower keeps it’s shape beautifully.  To make a small flower just use 2 layers of the small punched flower and assemble as before.

And there you have it, a quick and easy flower that you can co-ordinate to your project using left over bits of paper.

Poinsettia Flower Tutorial by Dawn Wheeler

Good morning girls Girls its Dawn here (All pink girl) and its my turn today to show you a little tutorial on how i make my poinsettia flowers ,
i am really nervous as this is my first ever tutorial and some of you know i am word challenged (so please stay with me lolxxx )
before we start here is the list of all the equipment that you will need to make this flower
1 Large retro flower punch (mine are from Hobby House)
1 Medium sized retro flower punch
small embossing tool
embossing mat
glue or sticky dotts
3 pearls
and a pair of scissors Next you need to punch out
2 large red flowers ,
2 large green flowers ,
and 1 med red flower


Then you need to emboss each flower from the centre outwards and then emboss little lines off of each centre line to create a vain like affect ,i have used a white pencil on the flower on the right to help you see the patteren you need to emboss and show up a bit more for you

Then you need to turn each flower over and pinch along the line from the centre of each of the petals to create dimetion

Then using your scissors you need to snip each pettal at an angel so to give more of a pointylook ,

do this with each flower ,plus also at this point you could also ink the edges of the petals if you wanted more of a vintage look

Next you need to add the pearls to the centre of the mediun flower ,by adding the pearls now will help when assembling the flower

Next glue the other two flowers togeather and add the top flower to assemble ,at this point you can also pinch the petals again if you need too

Then to make the leafs , you need to cut away some of the petals (like shown) as this will give more of a natural shape to your finished flower

Then like before when you made the flowers you need to emboss the leafs in the same way and not forgetting to pinch them down the centre and snipping in to each leaf

Then attach the leafs to the bottom of the flower for the finishing touch ,you can also add any glitter at this point too

Paper Flower Tutorial

Hi there, my name is Michele Roos and I'm a Guest Designer for Whiff of Joy. Today I'd like to show you how to make a fabulous paper flower. The flower I'm going to show you how to make are perfect for adding that finishing touch to cards, gift boxes/bags, etc.....

Above you will see the items that you will need to make these flowers. For my tutorial I've used the Spellbinders Peony die but any kind of flower shape will be just as good. I've used the four smallest dies for this tutorial and for each die I've cut out four flower shapes in the different sizes.

On each flower, cut down the petals to open them up more. In the picture I've tried to show you roughly where to cut.

Now on one side of the petals curl them inwards. (This is where thin tweezers come in handy)

On the wrong side of the flower, curl each petal inwards. Now the flowers should look like the above picture.

On each flower gently emboss the centre with the embossing pen using small circular motions, until they resemble the above picture. When all of the flowers have been embossed this is where the fun begins.

Starting with the largest of the flowers, place glue in the centre of each flower and start layering them. Keep doing this until you've used all the flower petals up.

When you've completed all the layers, you can now add a bit of sparkle to your flower if you want. I've used Iridescent Gold Glimmer Mist on my flower. And here's what the flower looks like on this 4 drawer box that I've made using the gorgeous Willow Holding Christmas Candle from Whiff of Joy.

Shabby Chic Flowers

Today I am sharing how I made my Shabby Chic (sounds much better than just plain old shabby) flowers like I used on this card.

To make the black flower I used:

Heavyweight white paper

Black dye ink

Brayer

Spellbinders Blossom Nesitibilities (but blossom type punches will work just as well)

Sanding block and/or emery board

Button or large brad for centre

To get the white core I brayered black dye ink on to the white paper, giving a good even coverage.  However you could use any designer paper instead and miss out this part.

Cut out three shapes using the three smallest dies in the set, don't bother embossing them

Sand the edges of each layer to expose the white core (do this with designer paper as well)

Crumple each layer up well.

Open each layer out but don't straighten the shapes out too much

Apply a strong glue in the centre of each layer - the one I use is clear drying and holds all embellishments really well.

Using wire cutters snip off the shank of the button (you may need to sand this smooth if you don't get a clean cut)

Apply the button to the centre, pushing down well.

And there you have a shabby chic flower, quick and easy

Another flower tutorial

Today is my last day as a guest designer for Whiff Of Joy - and what better way to say bye than with a blog post here? So, I am going to show you another easy way to make your own flowers and since those remind me of daffodils they are perfect for easter time.

You need to cut or punch a 5-petal flower. Any shape or size will work:



As the next step ink up the edges of your flower. It´s enough to ink up 4 of the 5 petals:



Cut a slit between the uninked and one of the inked petals:



Put some glue on top of the uninked petal and glue the one next to it on the top. This will create the shape of your flower and add the dimension:



Take a strip of paper or cardstock, about 2,5 cm high and cut little slits in it, very close to each other. You´ll only need about 1,5 cm in length but it´s easier to work with a longer strip. If you want to you can ink up the top egde of your strip in a different or darker color:



Now roll about 1,5 cm (depends a bit on the size of your flower - the larger the flower, the more you´ll need) of your strip very close and fix the end with some glue. Then bend the little pieces of papers outwards:



Make a hole in the middle of your flower, put some glue around it and put your stem in it. Put aside until the glue has dried:



All you need to do now is to bend the flower petals a bit, cut off the excess of your stem on the back and decorate your card with this flower. And this is what it can look:



I also made some smaller flowers using a flower which petals are round on the top to decorate the flowers in her hands.
The stamp is from the very first Store Stamp Kit from Whiff Of Joy.

Fabric Flower Tutorial by Michele Roos

Hi there everyone and hope that you're all keeping well. I haven't done a flower tutorial for such a long time that I thought that today I'd share how to make this one for you all.

List of supplies needed are as follows:-

Nylon material or something equivalant

Flower die (I've used the flower layers from Sizzix)

Clear drying glue

Sharp scissors

Leaf die (I've used the Leaves die from Whiff of Joy)

Tealight candle & matches

Step 1 - cut 4 medium and 1 small sized flower shapes using the nylon material. Now with the sharp scissors cut into each petal to open them up a bit more.

Step 2 (MIND YOUR FINGERS)- Light the tealight candle and one at a time using tweezers hold one of the flowers above the candle quite high up. Now slowly start to bring the flower closer to the candle and as soon as the petals start to curl up, quickly remove the flower otherwise it will curl up too much or burn. Do this with each of the flowers till they resemble the picture below.

Step 3 - Now take one of the larger flowers and pop a bit of glue in the centre.

Step 4 - Place one of the large flowers on top of the previous flower and push down slightly, then pop a bit of glue in the centre of this one.

Step 5 - keep layering the flowers ending with the smallest.

Step 6 - Pop a bit of glue into the centre and carefully place some beads/pearls. Put to one side to let it dry.

Step 7 - Next I'm going to colour the leaf shape using my Pine ProMarker.

Step 8 - To make the leaves a bit more lifelike, I've folded some of the leaves in the centre (see picture below for reference)

Step 9 - Then I've folded the leaves the other way. At the bottom of the leaf dab a little bit of glue and carefully place your flower on top. Put to oneside to let it dry thoroughly.
