Stretching Your Supplies by Jane Johnson

Today I am going to share with you how I make cards in a way that stretches your supplies a little further, which I find helps as we all know this hobby can really tug on those purse strings!!  This method allows me to create the matting for four cards from each 12"x12" piece of cardstock I buy!! There are also some other little tips for stretching your supplies of lace and ribbon.

Step 1.

Start with a 6" square of your chosen colour cardstock.

Step 2.

Cut a square from the centre of your 6" square cardstock leaving a 1/2" border all the way around.  You will end up with a 6"square frame and a square of cardstock as shown in the picture above.

Step 3.

You can now mat your chosen paper onto the 6" square frame created in step 2.

Step 4.

Take the smaller square of cardstock created in step 2 and cut your chosen image mat shape from the centre of it so that you still have the full square and your chosen shape as in the picture above.

Step 5.

You can now adhere your second choice of patterned paper to the square, covering the circle cut out in step 4.

Step 6.

This step allows you to stretch your paper supplies too!!  Using your smaller matted square as a guide, cut a square from the centre of the large matted square, ensuring it is slightly smaller to allow you to glue the small matted square over the top of the hole you will have created.

Step 7.

Your card base should then look like the picture above - and you can now save the square of paper you have cut out to use on another project!

Step 8.

Adhere the smaller mat over the top of the cut out in the base mat as shown in the above photo.

Step 9.

You can also be thrifty with your paper supplies.  I want to create a coloured paper background for my image on this card and have cut it from the centre of the paper so that I can use the rest of the paper for a base on another card.

Step 10.

Remember the circle (or your chosen shape) we cut out in section 4??  If you have nesting dies you can take the next die down and cut it from the centre of your shape - this gives you another shaped mat to use on another project!  I am going to use the circle frame created on this card.

Step 11.

In the photo above I have matted my circle of paper onto the scalloped circle frame shown in Step 10.

Step 12.

I also like to make my ribbons and lace go a little further.  If it is going to be underneath a layer or image mat I just use small pieces either side as shown in the picture above, rather than a full piece all the way across that will be hidden by the image.

Step 13.

For this card I wanted to create a mat for a sentiment, so I have cut it from the centre cut out in step 10 that we have reserved for another card - it doesn't matter that it has the middle cut out if we're going to use it to mat an image onto it!

Step 14.

I have used the little scalloped circle to mat my number nine, stamped with the new numbers stamp set.

Step 15.

I wanted to create a banner using the pennants die for this card.  Luckilly I had a small scrap of the same colour cardstock.  Again, if you cut your shape from the very centre of the cardstock this piece can be used to mat a rectangle element on a future card too!

Step 16.

In the photo above you can see my finished card and the leftover pieces created from all the mats as we went along that can now be saved and used on another card or project!

Here's my finished card.  As you can see I have added another little decoration cut from a scrap of green card using the grass die before adding my image of Soccer Ben that I have fussy cut out to complete the card.  I hope I've given you some ideas on how you can save a little bit of money while you're crafting!  Thanks for looking.

Tiny Pillow box

Good morning all,

Sonja here;)
Today it`s my turn to share something with you.
I made a Tiny Pillow box ,a while back I got one from a sweet and dear friend  Sandra and that's where I got the pattern  from, so I thought we could share it now.
I made the Pillow box from some kraft papers ...Looove Kraft ;0)

It`s not so many work, I just embellished the box with some left over papers,flowers from my stash and of course
the Leaves from Whiff of Joy ( I LOVE THEM ) also used some crackle paint on the leaves.. and a lovely  cute stamp from Henry.
It`s a sweet give away...you can fill it with a memorie,ore buttons,flowers..your choice,)

Biscuits and Tea - Anyone?

Hello everyone, its Colleen here today! From tomorrow the Summer Stamp kit with the theme "Jane Austen meets Charles Dickens" will be available in Digi. So I have a little tutorial for you today using the gorgeous Vintage Lady Mouse Drinking Tea.

I have made a little box filled with biscuits for a gift, its perfect when you getting together for some tea and cake to celebrate a birthday. Something personalised is always better than just taking a packet of biscuits, don't you think?

You will need kraft card stock, patterned paper (fairly thick), doily, Whiff of Joy Sweet Tags with Hearts and Leaves dies, Whiff of Joy twine and cupcake charm - Foodlovers Charms, Whiff of Joy's Sentiments - Festive Occasions stamps, lace, ribbon, leaves, muslin, leaves and flowers.

For the base of the box cut kraft card stock 200mm x 200mm, score 40mm in, on all sides.

Score diagonally in the corners.

Fold the side and the corners in, adhere with double sided tape.

Repeat the above with patterned paper for the top of the box, this will give it a snug fit over the base of the box. If you prefer a slightly looser fit, don't score the sides at 40mm try 37mm instead. I personally prefer a snug fit.

To decorate the top, adhere the doily and cut patterned paper 100mm x 100mm, ink edges and adhere.

Adhere lace, ribbon and tag.

Adhere muslin, coloured image, sentiment, charm, flowers and leaves.

Place some biscuits on tissue paper - YUMM!!!

Wrap the biscuits with some ribbon and pop into the box.

Now you ready to go to tea!

Remember you can always alter the size of the box to suit your need, they are really easy to make!

Hier ist Kathrin und ich möchte Euch heute in einem kleinen Tutorial zeigen, wie Ihr ein süßes und schnelles Halloween-Treat für die kleinen Geister und Gespenster machen könnt...

Have you seen the sneak peaks of those cute new Halloween stamps yet that we from the DT are sharing with you this week? Oh, they are just the cutest!

And I made a little sweet treat matching my card for the new Whiff Of Joy Challenge.

Und ich habe diese kleine Süßigkeitenverpackung so gestaltet, dass sie zu meiner Karte für die neuste Whiff Of Joy Challenge paßt.

Here's what you'll need:

some Carstock for the base

some designer's paper for decoration

the usual stuff like ruler, scissors, bonefolder, glue etc.

a flat lollipop or any other flat, single wrapped candy

Ihr braucht:
etwas Cardstock für die Basis
etwas Designpapier zum Dekorieren
das Übliche wie Lineal, Schere, Falzbein, Kleber etc.
einen flachen Lutscher oder irgend eine andere flache und einzeln verpackte Süßigkeit

First you have to do some measuring:

Measure the width, length and height of your candy and add a little to these. I only added about 2mm for the height since I don't want the candy to move too much sideways, but added a little more in width and length to have some more room for decorations.

Then cut a strip of cardstock being as wide as you measured your candy (plus added milimeters) and being 3 x the height and 2 x the length of your candy. 

Here for my lollipop I went with a strip measuring 15,1 x 5,5 cm.

Zuerst müßt Ihr ein wenig ausmessen:
Meßt die Länge, Breite und Tiefe Eurer Süßigkeit und erweiter diese Maße ein wenig. Ich habe nur 2 mm zur Höhe hinzugerechnet, da ich vermeiden möchte, dass die Süßigkeit seitlich herausrutscht, aber zur Breite und Länge habe ich etwas mehr hinzugerechnet um mehr Platz zum Dekorieren zu haben.
Schneidet dann einen Streifen Cardstock in der gemessenen Breite (inkl. der hinzugerechneten Millimeter) zu und kürzt diesen auf die 3fache Höhe plus 2fache Länge Eurer Süßigkeit. (Das klingt hier in der Beschreibung total kompliziert, ist aber eigentlich ganz einfach und logisch).
Für meinen Lutscher habe ich einen Streifen von 15,1 x 5,5 cm geschnitten.

Now we have to score the carstock strip. 

I scored mine at 0,7 cm (height), 7,2 cm (height + length), 7,9 cm (height + lenght + height) and 14,4 cm (2 x height + 2 x length). The left over piece of cardstock will measure exactly the height of your candy again (0,7 cm in my case).

Nun muß der Streifen gefalzt werden.
Ich habe meinen bei 0,7 cm (Höhe der Süßigkeit), 7,2 cm (Höhe plus Länge), 7,9 cm (Höhe plus Länge plus Höhe) und  14,4 cm (2 x Höhe plus 2 x Länge). Das übrige Stück Cardstock mißt dann noch genau einmal die Höhe Eurer Süßigkeit (in meinem Fall 0,7 cm).

 Fold all the scored lines.

If you are using a lollipop like I did, you will have to make a whole for the stick. Make this as centered as possible in the middle section of your paper strip. I made two small holes using my Cropadile. The bigger hole would have been to big.

If you are using another candy just skip this step.

Faltet dann alle Linien vor.
Wenn Ihr, wie ich, einen Lutscher verwendet, müßt Ihr ein Loch für den Stiel machen. Macht dieses möglichst zentriert in den mittleren Cardstockstreifen. Ich habe einfach mit meinem Cropadile zwei kleine Löcher nebeneinander gemacht - das größere Loch wäre zu groß gewesen.
Falls Ihr eine andere Süßigkeit als einen Lutscher verwendet, überspring diesen Schritt einfach.

 Now put the stick through the hole (in case of using a lollipop) and put your candy in the center of the cardstock square. If you want to you can use a little piece of doublesided tape to fix it in this position.

Steckt nun den Lutscherstiel durch das Loch und legt die Süßigkeit mittig auf das gefalzte Rechteck. Wenn Ihr auf Nummer Sicher gehen wollt, dann könnt Ihr sie mit etwas doppelseitigem Klebeband fixieren.

Then put some doublesided tape on one of the strips, peel of the protection paper and close your treat by just glueing the two strips together. And you're done. 

Now all that's left to do is to decorate your treat:

Gebt dann etwas doppelseitiges Klebeband auf einen der oberen Cardstockstreifen, zieht die Schutzfolie ab und schließt Euer Candy, indem Ihr die beiden oberen Cardstockstreifen aufeinander klebt. Und schon seid Ihr fertig.
Was bleibt, ist die Dekoration:

I cut out one of the three ghosts from "3? Ghosts", one of the new stamps that will be out soon and put it on a paper rosette. The candy holder itself has been decorated with some scary paper and a piece of cheesecloth. Then I put the paper rosette on top of it. To finish it off I added a little sentiment and a black and orange bow on the lollipop stick. 

That's it! Cute and fast enough to make a bunch of these...!

Ich habe einen der süßen Geister des  Stempels "3? Geister", einem der am Wochenende erscheinenden neuen Stempel, ausgeschnitten und ihn auf einer Papierrosette festgeklebt. Die Süßigkeitenverpackugn selbst habe ich mit etwas gruseligem Papier und einem Stück Cheesecloth dekoriert. Darauf habe ich dann die Papierrosette geklebt. Zum Schluss habe ich dann noch einen Streifen Cardstock, auf den ich einen Text gestempelt habe, und eine orange und schwarz farbige Schleife am Lutscherstiel befestigt.
Das wars! Ist er nicht süß? Und noch dazu schnell genug gemacht, um eine ganze Horde Kinder damit glücklich zu machen....!

Heute haben wir einen besonderen Gast Designer hier auf der Ideenwelt. Andrea Danz von Mini und Maxi. Seit Jahren ist Andrea sehr engagiert in der kreativen Community, leitet einige Challenge Blogs und bietet regelmäßig Anleitungen auf ihrem Blog. Heute hat Andrea eine tolle Schritt für Schritt Anleitung für eine spezielle Karte mit Kniff.

Material:

1 Cardstock

1 Designpapier

Band, Deco, Stempelmotiv

Klebeband-/Kleber

Template:

Anleitung:

Zunächst wird die Template ausgeschnitten und auf den Cardstock 1 x übertragen.

Danach wird die Template im Abstand von 1,5 cm noch einmal spiegelverkehrt übertragen. Bitte die linke und rechte Seite der jeweiligen Abzeichnungen falzen, damit sich der Zwischenraum besser falten lässt.

Wie oben auf dem Bild zu sehen ist, habe ich ein Designpapier etwas kleiner zugeschnitten – das 3 x – davon ist 2 x für innen. Sieht man ganz gut auf dem Bild oben. Auf der Template ist ein Vorlage für „innen“ – die habe ich für das Designpapier genommen, damit es sich ein bisschen besser abhebt.

Ihr könnt auch schon die Außengestaltung vornehmen. Man kann den Rezeptkartenhalter trotzdem noch gut innen einkleben.

Für den Rezeptkartenhalter schneidet Ihr ein Stück Cardstock in der folgenden Größe zu:

Breite 16 x Höhe 10 cm.

Bitte folgende Falze anbringen:

Nach 7,5 cm und nach 8,5 cm jeweils ein Falz.

Siehe Bild unten ….

Nun benötigt Ihr 2 Stück Cardstock in der folgenden Größe:

Breite 8 cm, Höhe 6,5 cm

Bitte falzt jeweils immer nach 1 cm

Danach knickt ihr immer einmal hoch und einmal runter – siehe Bild:

Diese Ziehharmonika wird nun in das vorbereitete Stück Cardstock seitlich eingeklebt …

 

Das macht Ihr bitte auf beiden Seiten.

Nun habe ich noch ein Band rundherum geklebt, damit sich die Ziehharmonika nicht zu weit auseinander ziehen kann.

Damit man die Kärtchen später besser entnehmen kann, hab ich mit der Kreisstanze noch einen Halbkreis in die Vorderseite gestanzt.

Die Rezeptkärtchen haben eine Größe von 9,5 x 7,5 cm

Oben habe ich kleine Tags angeklebt, damit man sie besser entnehmen kann. Es passen 3 -5 Kärtchen hinein.

Ich habe 3 Kärtchen in meiner Schürzenkarte/Rezeptkarte, die ich beidseitig beschriftet habe, also 6 Muffinsrezepte sind innen.
