Candle lantern by tanjaak

Hello and happy sunday! I'm going to show you today how to make a cute lantern out of wooden picture frames.

...and here are the materials needed for this project (not all shown in the picture).

brown packing paper

picture frames

stamps (I have used two cute stamps by Norma Fickel from WoJ's Get Well collection)

ink and colours (I used Promarkers)

paint and paintbrush (optional)

hammer and some nails

The first step is to treat your frames with some colour if you wish. I got my frames and paint from IKEA and as you can see in the later pictures neglected to paint the inside of the frames which I think was a bit of a mistake. So if you decide to paint your frames do paint the inside also, it gives the lantern more finished look as someone might want to take a look at the inside also LOL.

So here are my frames painted and images stamped and coloured. I just love this cute couple, the little witch with her potions and the clown with all the balloons. Cut the papers to fit the frames perfectly.

The next step is to let loose your inner handy man and start hammering those frames together. I used 8 nails in total and thought that was just enough to make my lantern hold together. 

As you may see my lantern is not really a square one but more of a quadrangle, it's really up to you how you might want to position your frames.

The frames I used had a plexiglass in them instead of real glass which might have been better but whether the frames have glass or plexi the point is that the paper is on the outside (the furthest from the flame).

 

And now the lantern is ready and has a candle inside (in a glass jar of course!) It was really hard trying to take a picture of the finished lantern with the candle inside, the lantern looks SOOOO much better in real life. I had so much fun at making this lantern and thought of also making a lamp shade in the same way!
