Spellbinders Gift Box

Hello everyone its Colleen here today! I have a little gift box tutorial to share with you, using Spellbinders dies and one of the newly released stamps 'You Have Green Fingers'.

You will need Spellbinders Nestabilities Labels One, stamped image 'You Have Green Fingers', WOJ Picket Fence die, cardstock, patterned paper and flowers.

Cut two pieces of cardstock using the largest die.

Using the next size down of Labels One die, cut one piece of patterned paper. You should have two larger pieces of cardstock and one piece of patterned paper slightly smaller.

Cut two pieces of cardstock 11cm x 11cm and score at 1.5cm on all sides on both pieces.

Snip on score line on one corner on each side of both pieces of cardstock. It should look like this.

Adhere double sided tape on the corners and fold in to form your boxes.

Adhere double sided tape on the bottom of the boxes.

Take one of the boxes and adhere to one of the large pieces of cardstock to form the bottom of your gift box.

I find it easier to embellish the top of the box before putting it together. Adhere the patterned paper to the cardstock.

Adhere the picket fence, stamped image and finish off with some flowers and leaves. Now that this is complete you can adhere it to the second box. I find this step easier to do standing with the two boxes closed and lining the top piece with the bottom one.

This is a really fun box to make and can be done with a variety of Spellbinders and Whiff of Joy stamps, hope you enjoyed it!

Altered Valentine's Box

Hi everyone! It's Sandie here. Today I am sharing with you a box I altered to make a Valentine Candy Box for my sweet daughter.

To create this box you will need:
Charming Henry mini stamp
1x Papier Mache box
White Acrylic Paint
A selection of Patterned papers
Embellishments of choice
Adhesives
Paper trimmer

#1 - Seperate all the components of the box and, using a baby wipe, distress paint all the edges with the white paint. Leave to dry for a few minutes. While it is drying you can go ahead and trim your papers to size

#2 - When the paint has dried adhere your papers to the box using a strong adhesive.

#3 - Trim out the centre of the lid by cutting an X and folding back each side. Adhere to the underside and then adhere the centre piece, which you have covered in contrasting paper.

#4 - While your adhesive is drying you can go ahead and stamp, colour and trim out Charming Henry, or the stamp of your choice.

#5 - Embellish the lid of the box adding the ribbon, which you will tuck and adhered to the underside of the lid. Make a bow to go on top of your ribbon.

#6 - Mount Henry on 3D foam dots and secure him on top of the embellishments once you are happy with how it looks

Fill the box with chocolates or love hearts candy.

And that completes your Valentine Candy Box. I do hope you like it and we would love to see your creations. Please do share in our Gallery over on Splitcoast Stampers or on our Facebook page

Liquid Pearls

Paper Heart Wreath with Henry Mouse

Eventually just because of the unbelievable cold front that is actually comming over us I have such desire for springtime :) And that's why I (Angie) have a flowery-hearty project to show. It's a wreath made of paper hearts with Henry Mouse...

To create the hearts I took 2 sheets of 12x12" Designpaper and cutted it the whole lengh along into 5cm wide stripes. That made 12 stripes. Then I folded them in half and bended both open ends to the middle to stick together to bring it to the heart shape. Then stuck all 12 hearts together. punched wholes to hang it up with the amazing WOJ-Ribbon. The sweet Henry Mouse with the huge heart is stamped 4x, kolored out and stuck with glue dots to the ribbons.  Attached 4 Mullberry Paper Rosses... et voilà! Ready for Spring :D

Liebe Grüsse,
Angie

Whiff of Joy now at Splitcoaststampers!

Back in November, Whiff of Joy was thrilled to become a Member Company over at Splitcoaststampers (SCS). I am sure many of you already are familiar with Splitcoaststampers. It is an online gathering place for stampers where we can all meet and talk and share with other stampers! You can create your own personal gallery where you can upload and share your creations with others and you can ask questions in the forums and visit the resource center to find amazing tutorials.

As a Member Company, Whiff of Joy has its very own forum. A place where we are sharing Sneak Peeks of our new releases and some awesome tutorials and ideas from our very talented dream Design Team. We will soon be starting a new feature where we will do a Spotlight on each of our designers. It would be a perfect time to get to know them better and maybe ask them some questions!

We want to send an invitation out to YOU, to come and chat with us and share your Whiff of Joy creations with us! That’s right, you can upload your Whiff of Joy cards to our own Gallery!

If you are a member of Splitcoaststampers already, then….come on over to our Whiff of Joy Forum ~here~.

If you are not already a member, don’t worry. It is free and it is very simple to join. Simply click ~here~ to be taken to Splitcoaststamper’s home page. On the top right, you will see the words “join the community”. Click on them and you will be taken through the steps to join. You will need to choose a username and password.

You will find almost all the answers for any questions you may have at the Splitcoast Help Page.

We also have a Whiff of Joy Member Gallery at Splitcoastampers that contains all cards that are uploaded to the SCS gallery and tagged with our key words. You can upload your WoJ cards to your own personal gallery and by adding our key words, they will also be placed in our member gallery.

Uploading Photos to the Splitcoaststampers Gallery

  • Please tag your photos with these tags: WhiffofJoy Whiff_of_Joy WhiffOfJoy
  1. On the SCS homepage you will see the link to the gallery at the upper right-hand side. Click on that and you will be brought to another page.
  2. Now click on upload a card which is on the right-hand side under around the site. This brings you to where you will add your cards. Just follow the directions.
  3. When you are finished click on upload/submit. You should be brought to another page where you will see the thumbnails of your cards and you will now add the card details. If you don't get directed to this page, your upload failed. Try uploading less cards at a time or smaller versions. That seems to help.

We can’t wait to see YOU and YOUR creations over at Splitcoaststampers!

Colouring Images in Black and White by Jane Johnson

Good morning!  Today I want to show you how to colour images in just black and white.  This is very effective and looks tricky but is actually quite easy!  For my tutorial I am using Copic markers to colour but the basic principal is the same whatever you use to colour with!  Our current challenge at Whiff of Joy Challenges is to colour your image in just black and white so perhaps you would like to join in too!
First you need to decide where the light will be coming from in your picture.  I have chosen to have the light coming from the left hand side of the image.  You will then need to decide which pieces of clothing etc are going to be dark "colours" and which will be white or light "colours".  I have coloured my image so that the apron is white, the trousers a dark colour and the top a paler colour.  This helps you decide which grey shade to use as the darkest colour on each area.  In the photo above I have added all my shadows using W7 for the darkest areas (trousers, shoes, hair and underside of umbrella) and W5 for the lighter areas (skin, top, and apron).
It is then just a case of adding the next shade lighter to each area, just like you would if you were colouring them in coloured ink.  On the photo above I have added W3 over and beyond all the W5 areas on the skin, top and apron.
On the photo above you can see how I have now added further colour to the trousers, hair and umbrella using W5 over the top of the original W7 lines and working out from them, again, just as you would if you were using different colours.
I have finished the trousers and underside of the umbrella in this photo by using W3, my lightest shade for these areas.  So, in all I have used W7, W5 and W3 on these dark areas.
Next I have used W1 to complete the lighter areas on the image - the top, skin, trouser turn ups and the top of the umbrella.  So, in all I have used W5, W3 and W1 in these paler areas.  Note that I have left some areas completely free of colour - the centre of her face, the tops of her hands and most of the apron - these are the highlights and will remain completely white.
Next, I use 00 (colourless blender) to blend where I have left the white areas so that the W1 lines fade into the white areas rather than harsh pen strokes.
Finally, I add a shadow using W5 underneath the umbrella handle.
Here is the finished image.  I have used a white gel pen to pick out some of the embroidery detail on her trousers and for the spots of the umbrella.

Here is my finished card using the image.  If you would like more details on the rest of my card, please see my blog.
