Tent Card by Sandie

Good morning, it's Sandie here and I would like to share a tutorial on how to make a Tent Card in 10 easy steps.

The materials needed to make this card are:

• One 6 x 12" piece of cardstock
• One 6" x 4" piece of cardstock for the card stand
• Scoring board/tool
• 12mm Double sided tape or other strong adhesive
• Two 6" squares of patterned paper, trimmed down slightly. I've used Prima "Annalee"
• Cuttlebug, or other die cut machine
• Dies - Classic & Scalloped Circle Nestabilities. Romantic Swirls 2
• Stamps - Ben & Nora, New Year Couple & Cheers to You sentiments
• Flowers/embellishments
• Butterfly punch
• Stickles

Step 1 - Score the  6 x 12" piece of cardstock at 6"  on the 12" side and fold in half. This is your card base.

Step 2 - Adhere one of the 6x6" pieces of patterned paper to the front of the card. Then cut out a circle in the middle, using the classic circles nestabilities.

Step 3 - To make a frame for around the circle, first cut out a scalloped circle in contrasting paper and then taking the same die that you used to cut out the circle on the card cut out the centre of the scalloped circle. {keep the circle as you will need it later} Adhere the frame to the front of the card.

Step 4 -  Image. Stamp your image and colour it using your chosen medium. Once it is coloured to your liking trim it out cutting close to the image. I like to leave a slight white outline around the image.

Step 5 - Embellish the front of your card adding flowers, swirls, etc.  At this point you can adhere the second 6x6" piece of patterned paper to the inside {this can also be done after the 'stand' has been adhered to the back of the card}.

Step 6 - Stamp out the sentiment and cut out using circle nestabilites. Mount the sentiment on 3D foam dots.

Step 7 - Score the 4" x 6" piece of cardstock at 1", 2" and 3" on the 4" side. Fold the score lines in mountain/valley style. The center fold has to go up (mountain), the two outer folds have to face down (valley). Apply double sided tape or other adhesive to the outer panels.

Step 8 - Adhere the first fold of the folded cardstock at the bottom of the back of the card.

Step 9 - Take the circle that you cut out from the contrasting scalloped circle and adhere it in the centre, lining it up with the window on the front of the card. Apply a strip of co-ordinating paper along the bottom to cover the white card. *hint - if you leave it until this point to adhere the 6x6" piece of patterned paper on the inside it will cover the white cardstock from the stand and the strip won't be necessary*

Step 10 - Adhere the bottom of the card front to the fold of the card stand. This completes your tent card.

Pillow Box Tutorial by Kylie

Hi everyone! It is Kylie here with a fast and easy Pillow Box tutorial for you.

Being the holiday season I like to have lots of little treat boxes handy for those just in case moments. These pillow boxes are fun and so easy to make.

Materials used:
Whiff of Joy Seasons Greetings stamp set
Whiff of Joy Fancy Shape die
Double sided patterned paper 7 inchs x 7 inches
Scoring tool (I used my bone folder and paper trimmer)
Ruler
Curved item (Roll of tape works fine, or a plate or Circle cutting tool)
Scissors
Small circle punch
Strong double sided tape
Items to decorate

I started with a square of double sided patterned paper measuring 7 inches x 7 inches

 I scored this at 1/2 inches and 3 3/4 inches, giving me two equal sections of 3 1/4 inches wide

Next, fold on the score lines and on the side of the paper that is to be the inside, measure from each end 1/2 inch on both fold lines. These are the guide marks to mark your curves.

Using something that is curved (I used my roll of double sided tape, but a plate works well) and a pencil (I only used a pen here so the line would show on the photo), line the tape up with the two mark on the folds and draw in the curve on both ends.

Then using the tape again and your bone folder, score a curve in the other direction as you can see in the photo below. Repeat this at the other end.

 Trim off the ends along the pencil line

 And using a small circle punch, punch out small half circles which are used to help open the pillow box.

Open out your box again and carefully trim off the little corner sections on the 1/2 inch flap along the score lines.

Apply double sided tape along the flap, staying close to the score line, remove backng paper and adhere the box together to make a cylindar.

Carefully fold along your curved score lines on both ends of your pillow box to give it a nice puffy round shape.

And now it is time to decorate the box and if you wish, make a matching card. I created a belly band around the pillow box using a 2 1/2 inch wide strip of patterned paper (the other side of the same paper used on the box) and added a punched edge, some ribbon and added the sentiment from the Seasons Greetinngs sentiment set with coordinating Fancy Shap die. 

This pillow box will hold contents approx 3 inches wide, 5 inches tall and 1 inch thick.  If you want to make a pillow box a different size, just measure your contents and add 1 inch to the height and 1 inch to the width of your paper. By adjusting the curve on the top and bottom of your ends you can alter the thickness of the box.

Distressing Technique by Michele Roos

Hi and thanks for stopping by today. My name is Michele Roos and today I would like to show you another technique on how to create vintage/distressed items for your projects.

Items you will need are as follows:-

Scrap cardstock large enough to cover the appropriate die

scrap design paper large enough to cover appropriate die

Glue (I used Pritt Stick)

Die (I’ve used the Magical Tag from Whiff of Joy)

Mini mister filled with water

Distress Ink pad

Sponge

To start with glue the design paper (I’ve used a scrap piece from the Winter Pretties from Whiff of Joy) with the printed side up onto the scrap piece of cardstock. Then place the die face down making sure that it is covering the area that you have glued down and then run it though your die-cutting machine.

Take the die out of the machine and the cut out should look like the above picture

Next place your tag on something that is waterproof and spray some water over the whole area.

Now with your finger go over the areas in a gentle circular motion and the design paper will start to come away from the cardstock. If the paper gets dry, just lightly spray the paper again but be careful not to take too much off.

Next up is to roughen the edges a little bit and for this I’ve just used my scissors. Now place it to one side and let it dry for a little while.

When your tag has dried go over the whole area with distress inks (for mine I’ve used Brushed Corduroy) I’ve then used the Merry Christmas stamp from the Sentiments range from Whiff of Joy and I’ve shredded up a ribbon to create a shabby look.

I also used the same technique on these swirls which I’ve created using the die from Whiff of Joy. The swirls on the top are the before and the swirls on the bottom are after the distressing technique that I’ve just shown you.

Here’s the tag again on a card that I’ve made using the adorable Henry and Betty Mouse.

I’ve also created these hollies which are from Whiff of Joy using the same distressing technique.

And here is another card that I’ve made using the same distressing technique and I’ve used the adorable Henry Mouse again.

I hope that you’ve enjoyed my tutorial and has given you some ideas on how to easily create vintage/distressed embellishments for your projects.

Easy Gift Tags by Jeanette

Hi! This is Jeanette from Canada and I have fun and quick holiday project to show you today!

I decided that I would make all my little gift tags this year. I used all my little pieces of extra cardstock and, instead of coloring my images which would be time-consuming, I embossed them instead. I {heart} the clean and simple look and best of all, this takes very little time to do!  I also loved that I could use many of my beloved Whiff of Joy images!

• To start, I used the Whiff of Joy magical tag die with my Cuttle-bug and made the tags using scrap pieces of kraft cardstock.

• I ran the embossing buddy (little bag filled with cornstarch will also work) over my tag. This will prevent stray embossing powder from sticking to areas where I do not want it. I inked up my image with my Versamark stamp pad.

• I covered the stamped image with Filigree white embossing powder and gently tapped the edge of the tag to remove any stray powder. I did this over an inexpensive tray the I picked up in the $ store.

• I heat set using my embossing tool.

• I placed my “To” and “From” stamps on the same block and stamped them onto the tag using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.

• I sponged some white ink onto the edges of the tag to soften the look.

• Here you can some of the different tags I created. I tied a small length of red ribbon to each one. It gives them a little “pop” of color.

Joy Fold Card by Jorunn

Hello to you all, how are you doing in these hectic time of year??

I am running around like crazy, but I enjoy it so much! 

Could not be without Christmas at all! 

Oh well... I found some time for my scrap room today, and I have made

a Joy fold card to show you

I guess most of you already know how to make a Joy fold car, 

but for them who doesn't I have made a little tutorial.....

Step 1;

Joy fold card is actually two cards glued together.

I have made my Joy fold card this way:

The base: card stock at 15 cm x 20 cm 

The upper card:  Cards stock folded into 12 cm x 12 cm card.

Step 2:

Making the base:

Score and fold at 5 cm (2")

Now it looks like this.... 

and it is ready to decorate!

Decorate the base and the 12 cm x 12 cm card separately (but of course matching....)

And then glue the 12 cm x 12 cm card in the center of the base.

And it should end up, with the upper card, folding on to the flap of the base.

Folding map of Christmas with Murielle

Hello all, I am Murielle of France andI propose a small tutorial for my project in December.You will discover a folding map for Christmas, I hope you enjoy it!

Here's what you need: 2 sheets of 30x30cm.

On the first sheet, you will realize the diagram below.
Cut  the slot.
Fold all other parties.

Then with the second sheet cut a piece of paper dimension: 14.5x14.5cm.
It will stick to the first half  off the map.

With you to decorate the structure of this map.I used stamps from the collection of Christmas 2009 "Henry the mouse"

I hope I have given an idea for Christmas.

A Super Quick Christmas card by Jane Johnson

If, like me, you've realised that today is the 1st December already and you have lots more Christmas cards still to make then I have a super quick idea for you that means you could make lots of cards in next to no time!!

You will need:

Clear Embossing ink

Gold Embossing powder

Heat tool

Gems

Ribbon

cardstock

paper

Whiff of Joy Christmas Tree stamp

After stamping the Christmas tree stamp with clear embossing ink cover with gold embossing powder like so.

Gently shake off the excess powder and you're image will look like the photo above. Gently heat with your heat tool until the embossing powder sets.

The image after heating the embossing powder. It looks gorgeous as it is and you could stop here but to add an extra bit of Christmas sparkle I have added gems to all the apples on the tree to turn them into baubles as shown below.

I have chosen a selection of golds, purples, pinks and reds to compliment the rest of the materials I'm using on the card.

Here is my finished card. I have simply matted the image onto red cardstock and made my card base with red cardstock, paper from Whiff of Joy's Winter Pretties paper pad and added some ribbon and a bow. Hope you enjoyed my tutorial for a quick way to get through that mountain of cards to make!! Thanks for looking!
