Shabby Chic Flowers

Today I am sharing how I made my Shabby Chic (sounds much better than just plain old shabby) flowers like I used on this card.
woj-eb-city-chics-1

To make the black flower I used:

Heavyweight white paper
Black dye ink
Brayer
Spellbinders Blossom Nesitibilities (but blossom type punches will work just as well)
Sanding block and/or emery board
Button or large brad for centre

shabby-flower-1

To get the white core I brayered black dye ink on to the white paper, giving a good even coverage.  However you could use any designer paper instead and miss out this part.

shabby-flower-2

Cut out three shapes using the three smallest dies in the set, don't bother embossing them

shabby-flower-4

Sand the edges of each layer to expose the white core (do this with designer paper as well)

shabby-flower-5

Crumple each layer up well.

shabby-flower-6

Open each layer out but don't straighten the shapes out too much

shabby-flower-7

Apply a strong glue in the centre of each layer - the one I use is clear drying and holds all embellishments really well.

shabby-flower-8

Using wire cutters snip off the shank of the button (you may need to sand this smooth if you don't get a clean cut)

shabby-flower-9

Apply the button to the centre, pushing down well.

shabby-flower-10

And there you have a shabby chic flower, quick and easy

shabby-flower-11

I hope this will be of use to you, and I'm looking forward to seeing lots of shabby chic flowers in blog-land.  Have a great weekend!

Clothing by Aija

Well I do not know what is the "right" word for this technique but I call it as clothing. I used lovely stamp confirmand Melinda. I took two patterned papers because I could not choose and thought to check out which one will suite better.

I stamped the image on the white canson paper and also on the patterned papers.

I cutted the dresses out from the patterned papers and fitted them on.

Then I coloured the other parts with distress inks and clued the dress on.

Here is the finished card. Lights are so different. I took the first pictures on daylight, well in the afternoon so it was not so light anymore and the card is photographed with electric light which shows the right colours.
Have a great Friday and nice weekend!

Ways to Use it...Nestabilities...by Kathy Page...

Good morning. Today I want to show you a different way to use the Spellbinders Nestablilities. Some I don't use that much so I wanted to see what else I could use them for. I have found that you can make some pretty borders with them ~ I see all kinds of gorgeous border punches but in this economy I for one can't get all the ones I want.

So for today I will show you what I did with the heart nestabilities and I have used one of the new Alison Acton Happy Mail stamps called Charlotte with Birdcage.

First off I started with two nesting hearts of the size I wanted and taped them together:
After running it through once I reran it again to emboss. I used white core because I love the way it looks sanded but if you just want the embossed look (or not) that is fine too!! I think it really adds to the border.
I did this a total of three times. Then I cut then right in half. I found that 5 halves fit perfectly across a 5.5 card base. I just put a ruler where I wanted the top and lined them all up. Place your panel on top where you want it and voila you can't tell what it under!! LOL
I wanted to add additional hearts to the front so I just did the same thing with the nesting, sanded and linked the two for an embellie on the front:
Color and you have your card!!

Well I hope you can use this and if you do link it here ~ I would love to see what you come up with!!!
Thanks so much for stopping by and have a great day!

Colouring with Copic Markers - face & hair by Katharina Frei

Today I want to show you how I colour skin and hair with the popular and versatile Copic Sketch Markers. I am no expert with Copics, but I use a very simple and clean technique which gives you quite good results right from the start :)
---------------------------------------------------------------
ColouringWithCopicsFinalCard
I don't use a lot of different colours for skin tones. You can also achieve nice blending effects with less colours and the Blender pen (0). I prefer E21 (Baby Skin Pink) as base colour and R20 (Blush) for the cheeks. I stamped Maid Charlotte from Whiff of Joy with Memento Tuxedo black ink on whisper white cardstock from Stampin' Up.
I start with colouring the face with E21 very softly. Try not to press to hard or to use too much colour on this first layer. The face gets darker with every additional layer of colour that you add.
---------------------------------------------------------------
1 2
I also colour the arms and the neck with one layer of E21. It doesn't matter if there are still strokes or dots of colour visible, they will vanish after blending.
After adding the first layer of colour, I continue with the cheeks. Add 2 small circles of R20 (Blush) to the cheeks and quickly continue to the next step so that the colour isn't absorbed by the paper.
---------------------------------------------------------------
3 4
Take E21 (Baby Skin Pink) again and start to blend the cheeks to the rest of the face with small circular motions. This way you can add more colour to the face and close little irregularities of the first layer.
Because you add a lot of colour at once, the result will look a bit strange at first. The paper and colour needs to dry to show the real effect. Please again be aware, that the face will get darker with every layer of colour you add.

I use Copic's Colorless Blender pen (0) to brighten the face on some areas. Picture 6 shows how I used the blender pen to quickly remove some colour between the eyes. This area seems a bit stained and dark right after using the blender pen, but this will vanish after the paper dried again.
---------------------------------------------------------------
5 6
After doing the arms and the neck the same way, I proceed to the hair. I used the following colours: C05 (Cool Gray No.5) as my light base colour, C07 (Cool Gray No.7) as a medium tone, 110 Special Black to set dark accents.
I started off with my lightest colour C05 and put 1 layer of colour on the hair.

Continue with the middle colour C07 and add some dark areas.
---------------------------------------------------------------
10 11
In the end I set some tiny accents with the darkest colour 110 Special Black.
To blend all the colours together take the lightest colour again (C05), start in the darkest area and blend outwards with small circular motions. Try to avoid the tips of the hair, so that they look lighter than the rest.
---------------------------------------------------------------
12 13
After I finished blending, I used the Blender pen to take away some colour from the tips of the hair to get a better shading and some more light areas.
It's the same with the plait.

---------------------------------------------------------------
14 15
The below picture shows the back of the completely coloured image.
rueckseite
I used Spellbinder's Lables 1 Nestabilities to punch the image. I did the background with Copic's Airbrushing System.
Meine fertige Karte.

Masking Tutorial

Good morning girls its Dawn (All pink girl) here to share with you all a little tutorial on how to do masking
the tutorial today is nice and easy but it will show you how to combine your whiff of joy stamps to get the best affect and impact by simply over lapping them
For the tutorial you will need
1) 2 stamps that so well to geather ( or a theme) i have used the new happy mail range
2) post it notes
3) Sharpe scissors
4) ink pad

First decide which of the images you would like to be at the font of your scene and which image you would like to be the back ground ,
some times it helps to have a play with your stamps on scrap paper first
once you have decided which is your main image you need to stamp this stamp on to the post it note
making sure you stamp some of your image near the top of the post it note where it is sticky as when the image is cut out this will hold your mask to your work

Next you need to carefully cut out your image

now using your stamp again you need to stamp your image where you would like it in your picture

then using the mask you have carefully cut out now place this over the image you have just stamped to protect your original

Now your mask is safely in place you can now stamp your background stamp with no fear of getting ink on the original and giving your project dimension

And here we have the finished card
hope you have enjoyed the tutorial today ,thanks for looking
hugs Dawnxxxxx
