Stamping and coloring on glitter

Hello! It's Alice here and I am sharing a technique that I first learnt from the amazing Jennifer McGuire. Here is how I did mine.

You will need:

  • Glitter Ritz Micro Fine Glitter (I have never tried using other glitters for this technique, you can find this glitter here at Ellen Hutson or here at Simon Says Stamps.)
  • Double sided adhesive (I used 1 1/2" wide Scor-Tape.)
  • Cardstock (I have trimmed it to the size that I intended to use.)
  • Stamp of choice (I used the lovely Uru and Bird.)
  • Ink (Since I wanted to color my image with Copic markers, I used Memento Tuxedo Black.)
  • A pair of scissors (not shown)
  • Stamp positioner (optional)

First, cover the cardstock with double sided adhesive.

Take care to line them up and leave no gaps in-between each strips of tape.

Trim off excess tape. If you want to use a die to cut a shape for your project, now is the time to do it.

Peel off the backing.

Cover the piece with Glitter Ritz Micro Fine Glitter. It may seem a lot here, but really it doesn't take much to cover a piece of cardstock that size. The little bottle will last a long time. =)

After tapping off excess glitter, rub the surface of the glittered piece with your finger in a circular motion to burnish it. This is what makes this technique work since once burnished, the glitter stays put and rarely falls off.

Here is the glittered piece. It's very smooth after burnishing.

Now you can move on to the stamping and coloring part. My image is stamped with Tuxedo Black ink. I gave it a few minutes to dry after stamping. I have used this technique a couple of times and the ink has never been rubbed off while I was working on them. You can certainly use pigment ink with heat embossing to secure the image if you want to.

Skin. You are really coloring on the glitter and not the paper with this technique. The glitter does bleed easier than paper, so go lightly and slowly as you go to prevent bleeding. Any bleeding can also be corrected with a Colorless Blender.

Outfit.

Bird and birdhouse.

Ground.

And here is a look of the card that I made using the image.

This is a fun technique that gives your card/project an amazing shimmer and hope you will have a chance to give it a try. =)

Thanks for stopping by!

hugs,
alice

Rolled felt flowers tutorial

Good Morning Everyone! Jane here today with a tutorial to show you how to make the rolled felt flowers I have used on my card which I made with the adorable 'Kiss the Cook' Henry stamp which was released this month at Whiff of Joy.

To make the flowers, you will need:

Blue and green felt
Tweezers
Scissors
Glue gun

How to make the flowers:

1. Die cut flowers from felt

2. Cut a spiral  into the die cut flower as shown in the photo

3. Roll the flower from the outer edge holding the centre with tweezers

4. Glue the tab at the end to the bottom of the flower

5. While the glue is setting, arrange the petals.

Here are the finished flowers I made using the two smallest flowers in the die set. I also added two die cut leaves. You can also see some of the lovely new charms from Whiff of Joy which are available here. I hope you have enjoyed my tutorial, have a lovely Tuesday!

Apple Shaped card

Hi Lori here with a tutorial on how to make an apple shaped card. With back to school around the corner I thought I'd make a few for my kids teachers. I used Elisabeth Bell's An Apple for you stamp from Whiff of Joy.

Supplies: Black card stock, 6 inch square piece of red designer paper. Scrap pieces of green and brown designer papers.  A small bow, twine, charm, ribbon, half pearls, stamps and template.

First off I needed an apple template so I went on the internet and googled "Apple Template" and clicked on images.  There are many to choose from. Save the picture to your computer. I then resized and printed mine to be approximately 5 inches wide. Next cut out all the paper shapes. I then held my template on the red designer paper and cut out as above.

Do the same with the leaf and stem using your green and brown scraps.

Next fold your black card stock in half cut around the shape leaving a 1/8 inch space. Notice the straight 1 inch part on the left. That is along the fold and don't cut all the way through.

It should look like this when open.

Now start to embellish. Add the stem and leaf. I also added a punched border and white lacey ribbon.

For the finished card I also added a ribbon and apple charm to the stem. The sentiment and pearls are also from Whiff of Joy.

back 2 school

Hello everyone!
It's Kathrin here - back from holidays. And well, re-start of school is just around the corner...

Here in Germany we have the tradition of giving the kids a school cone for their first day of school. My kids all attended school long time ago - but this year my oldest will change school and so in some way there will be a first day of school for her.
To make it match her age - she will be 18 in february - I didn't make a school cone but a large paper pencil that I will fill with a litte something for her:

I have been eyeing with a Cameo since quite a while now and about 1 month ago I went ahead and bought it. So this pencil was cut using my Cameo and a cutting file by svgcuts.com. But there are several tutorials out there how to make one like this i. e. HERE, even if you don't have a Cameo.

I used I Love School and the saying from In Time For Class. They were included in last year's secret stamp kit but you can get all of them individually.

I wanted my pencil to look real - and I think a lot of you agree with me that a real pencil is just yellow, with the eraser at the end... I stamped some fine lines to the "wooden" part of the pencil and used a yellow Distress Ink on the edges of the pencil as well as some dark one around the eraser.
I just added a book charm and some twin as decoration.

This is what the box looks opened:

I see myself filling it with some candies and a little extra that can make a 17 year old happy...

I hope to have inspired you a bit and maybe you find the time to make your little one's first day of school a little sweeter after the holidays...

Have a great end of summer everyone!

Ground shading using Pencils & Stickles....

Morning all.....

Vicky here today and this month I'm going to let you into my little secret how I do ground shading...lots of fellow crafters have asked me how I do it...so here goes...and it's sooooo simples..lol..!

These are the items I will be using..

Sansodor Low Odour Solvent
Black Prismacolour Pencil
Stickles in Stardust
Paper Stub

I colour my chosen image in first...today I have used one of the new Digi Stamps from the Wedding collection "Groom Henry & Ring Bearer" which was released this month..

Then using my black Prismacolour pencil I add some shading beneath my image as shown above..

I then use my paper stub by dipping the end into the Sansodor and gently blending in the colour as you can see above...

I then attach the image to my card/project then add the stickles...be careful not to add loads...just enough to add a tad of sparkle by going over all the black pencil...simples...!

and here is my finished tag..

For more information please pop over to my blog here..

Thank you for stopping by...hope you like my very quick and simple tutorial..

and have a lovely day too...

big hugs Vicky xx

Coloring with Copics; Warm Grey, Cool Grey or Natural Grey?

Hi everyone! I, Henrikke, got a new tutorial for you today and I also made a card so you can see what we are making. I am completly new to copics, I just started three months ago, but since I love colouring in my Whiff of Joy images I already see which one I am going to use the most. I love colouring Henry in grey so today I have a little tutorial for you showing you how to colour him in (for beginners like my self) and which grey colour to chose. Here is the card that I made with my finish Henry. I  have used my favorite Henry-stamp so fare, "Henry with rocking horse"
So what we need to start with is your image, as I said mine is the new July Release Image Henry on rocking horse. I also have my copics and I have chosen to use three different grey this time:
- Natural Grey: N0-N2-N4-N6
- Warm Grey: W1-W3-W5-W7
- Cool Grey: C1-C3-C5-C7
I also got my blender, but not to blend just to fix my mistakes.
On this tutorial I am also using:
- Brown: E49-E47-E44-E43
- Peach: E11-E01-E00-E000
- Hair on horse: E33-E35
First we got to do the rocking horse, but the reason I am showing you this here, is because it would be the same as if you wanted to colour your Henry in brown instead of grey. I start with E47. During the whole tutorial I will be using a flick technique (because I don´t really know any else!)
Add E44 just a little bit over E47 and futher out.
Add E43 just a little bit over E44 and futher out.
Start over at the first step again, add E47.
Add E44 just a little bit over E47 and futher out.
Now we are adding the darkest one of them E49. Don´t go to fare in, you just want it do make a define shadow in the start.
Add E47 again.
Add E44 again.
Go over with E43 all the way out to the edge.
Finish the rest of your rocking horse. I also made the hair of the horse in E35 + E33.
Now we are going to use the same technique to colour in Henry. For the main tutorial I have used the warm greys. Start with W7. I just do one area at the time, first his face and than the rest of his body.
Go over again with W5.
Go over with W3.
Do the rest of his face in W1. This will not be the final layer on Henry so don´t worrie if the colour don´t blend.
Now put away your W7 because it´s such a dark colour. Now we are jumping straight to W5 and going over the areas with W7 and W5.
Go over with W3.
And than finish it of with W1. As you can see the colours are bleding so much better on the second coat. But I like to do it at least three times on each area.
So go back to your W5 and add it to his face.
Add W3 again.
And finish it of with W1.
Do the rest of your Henry.
Now let´s do his ears, nose and tail in E11-E01-E00-E000.
Start with E11.
Go over with E01.
Than E00+E000.
All done.
This is Henry in COOL GREYS
Henry in NATURAL GREYS.
Here you can see them all next do each other.
On my card I have used Henry with Warm Greys because my patteren paper has warm grey in it. So match up your papers with your Henrys to see which one is the right one to use. I hope you have learned something, and maybe the people who has just started with copics like me want to do more?? Hope so! Enjoy your day! :)
