Create Your Own Embossing Folder by Jane Johnson

Hello!  Today I want to share with you how to create your own embossing folder using the gorgeous baby dies from Whiff of Joy!!  You can, of course, adapt it for use with any of the other dies too!  I'm thinking the butterlfly dies would be nice too!  I have also created a baby card using the embossing folder and will show you the step by step details to make that too!

You will need:

Cardstock
Ribbon

1.
 Cut out the Bundle of Joy die shapes several times from scrap cardstock.  Use the thickest cardstock that your die cutting machine will cut with the dies.  I cut out the shapes four times.

2.
 Arrange the die cut shapes in a random pattern on a piece of cardstock and glue down.  You will achieve a more natural looking embossing pattern if you let some of the shapes overhang the edges of the cardstock as shown.

3.
 Trim the pieces that overhand flush with the edge of the cardstock.

4.
 Your custom embossing folder is now ready to use!!  I use a Vagabond for die cutting/embossing and I simply ran my embossing folder through with a rubber embossing mat above and below the mat and the cardstock I was embossing (ie: rubber mat/embossing folder/cardstock/rubber mat) but you will need to experiment with whatever machine you're using to find out what you'll need to create the best impression on your cardstock!

5.
 I have chosen to emboss a piece of pale pink pearlescent cardstock, which you can see in the photo above after it has been embossed!  The rest of my instructions are the step by step to make my baby card.

6.
 Round the top corners of the embossed cardstock and then ink the edges with pink chalk.

7.
 Create your card blank and then die cut the bottom edge with the Fancy Hearts border die.

8.
 Cut out the Hallo Baby shapes from white cardstock.

9.
 Trim the bow from the rattle die cut so that it looks like the one in my photo above.

10.
 Attach the embossed panel to the card and add a piece of ribbon along the bottom.  I have used the gorgeous ribbon from Whiff of Joy.  Add the rattle and Hall Baby die cuts to the card as shown.  I have added foam pads underneath the rattle for some extra dimension.

11.
 Tie a bow from the ribbon and attach to the rattle to replace the original bow cut off in step 9.  Try my bow tutorial here to tie the perfect neat bow!!

12.
Here is my finished card!  Don't forget to keep your custom embossing folder!  I hope you like my tutorial and have fun creating your own embossing folders!

Die-cutting with Japanese washi tape by Alice

Hello! It's Alice here and I am sharing a fun way to use the very trendy washi tapes with your dies and colored images today.

You will need:

  • Japanese washi tapes (the floral ones that I used are from Mark's) or decorative taps (My Mind's Eye, Queen & Company, Target and Michaels now have some of their own designs, too)
  • Dies of your choice ( I used Pennants and Bundle of Joy)
  • A piece of cardstock
  • Die-cutting machine

Starting with covering the cardstock with washi tape.

Take care to line them up without overlapping. If you are trying to build a pattern with your tapes then of course overlap them as you see fit.

I just covered my cardstock in the area that is big enough to cut the Pennants and since I only wanted to use the little heart on the onsie, a tiny piece was enough for it.

Send the piece through your die-cutting machine.

And here you have it. Die cut shapes with pretty prints from washi tapes. This is one more way that you can add those chic and trendy washi tapes in your cards/projects.

Here is a quick and simple card that I made using the elements that I cut out.

I used the sweet Nora with Rose for my card and the sentiment is from General Sayings II set. The teal stripe and pink polka dot decorative tapes that I used on the card base are from Target.

Hope you will give this a try! =)

Thanks for stopping by!

hugs,
alice

Mini Henry Bookmark card

Good Morning Everyone! Jane here today and I have a tutorial to share with you today to show you how to make this bookmark card decorated with the adorable Mini Henry behind Huge Heart stamp which is available here from Whiff of Joy.

To make the card you will need the following supplies:
- Kraft card base measuring 13.5x13.5cm
- Plain cardstock
-Patterned papers
- Adhesive pearls and an adhesive pearl swirl
- Paper flowers
- Whiff of Joy Twine
- Heart metal charm
-Large foam pad

Step by Step Instructions:

1. With the spine of the card facing to the left, draw a line across the front of the card 5cm from the top edge and cut the section out as shown using a craft knife.

 2. Cut a strip of kraft measuring 2.5cmx10cm add foam pad to top and place on front of card. Draw a line each side of the kraft strip and remove.

 3. Using the lines as a guide, add double sided tape leaving the area shown free of adhesive as this is where you will slot in the bookmark.

4. Cut pieces of cardstock to fit the inside and front of card and patterned papers to layer on top leaving a small border.

5. Stamp sentiment in top left hand corner of largest piece of patterned paper. Layer up papers and then sew onto plain cardstock.

6. Put Bookmark back in place and stick on layered papers.

7. Stamp and colour Henry mouse, cut him out and add him to the top of the bookmark.

 8. Decorate with flowers and pearls and add a little metal heart charm to Henry's tail

Here is the finished Bookmark ready to slot back into the card.
I hope you have enjoyed my tutorial.

Napkin Holder

 Hi Lori here with a tutorial on how to make use of some of those Whiff of Joy dies.  It's always nice to find different ways to dress up the dinner table. With paper napkin rings the possibilities are endless and they could be changed all the time.  For starters you will need a decorative border punch, some lace, embellishments, background stamp, dies and some ink for sponging the side.

 Start by cutting a piece of 7.5 inch wide cardstock by 2.5 inches tall. Take your border punch and decorate both long side of the cardstock.

 Next cut a piece of lace 7.5 inches and glue it to the centre of the cardstock.

Take a piece of double stick tape or some firm glue and attached it to one end and form a circle and glue the other end to it.

 For the scallop circle I used Whiff of Joy's Nested Flowers die. I stamped with Vintage Photo ink the Whiff of Joy script stamp from the Essential Backgrounds set.

 I also cut out two matching butterflies from the Cute Butterfly Trio die set.

 All that is left is to decorate your napkin ring with whichever embellishments your heart desires.

I added a few flowers, brad and Whiff of Joy's Button Twine.

 Thanks for stopping by and I hope you'll give it a try!

Stamping & More #42–Distress Markers by Katharina Frei

0412_180imageHello, Katharina here! Today I would like to show you how to colour a lovely stamp from Whiff of Joy with the new Distress Markers from Tim Holtz. I created a cute tag and filmed how to do it. At the bottom of this post I will give a short overview of the advantages/disadvantages of the markers. Enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hallo von Katharina! Heute möchte ich euch anhand eines Videos zeigen wie ihr ein knuffiges Motiv von Whiff of Joy mit den neuen Distress Markern von Tim Holtz ausmalen könnt (diese sind momentan in aller Munde). Ich habe einen niedlichen Anhänger gebastelt, um die Technik zu veranschaulichen.
Weiter unten werde ich ausserdem kurz über die Vor- / Nachteile der neuen Marker sprechen.
Viel Spaß!
Why should I get the new Distress Markers if I already own the inkpads and/or the refillers?
This was the main question I asked myself after hearing that these markers are coming out. The advantages quickly became clear to me.
- they are easy to take with you if you want to colour outside your craft room.
- they are great to colour small details or to write text on your creations
- you can also stamp with them if you only stamp small images
disadvantages:
- it is difficult to blend them directly on the paper, you need to use a medium to apply the ink on first (acrylic block or craft sheet)
- NOT refillable (this is a bit disappointing, because normally Tim Holtz’s products are very economical and reasoned. Why don’t make them refillable if the Distress refillers exist?)
Overall I am very happy with the markers and I think they are a great addition to the Distress line from Ranger!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
