Spring Card - A How To

Today I don't have a tutorial for you per sé, but rather just a sweet Sring/Easter card, and some tips to share on the process I use to make my cards.

To create this card you need the following:

Stamp- Girl and her Lamb, Whiff of Joy
Patterned Papers -6x6 paperpad
Card - 145 x145mm pre-creased white card base
Ribbon - Moss Green Satin, Whiff of Joy
Flowers Whiff of Joy
Pearls - Snow White, Whiff of Joy
Pearl Swirl
Tools - Sewing Machine, Paper trimmer
Colouring Medium - Copic Markers

For my card I've used one of the Whiff of Joy Gnomes, some of which are on special right now @ 50% off. The sweet stamps I've used is called Girl and her Lamb.

How To:
  1. When deciding on which colours to use on my image I tend to choose my papers first. Then I match the papers to my cardstock.
  2. Colour the image and decide on what shape it will be, in this case it is a long rectangle.
  3. Decide on the card design and cut the papers to size. Assemble the card front. I don't use any glue, I stitch all my papers.
  4. Once the papers have been stitched down pull the threads through to the back and secure them with some tape. This stops the thread from fraying or coming loose from the card.
  5. Add the ribbon, tying around the card front. Once this is done adhere the front to the card base
  6. Layer coordinating embellishments of your choosing until you are happy with the result.

To photograph my cards I use a light tent with natural daylight bulbs.

Thank you so much for dropping in today, I do hope you have found this information helpful.

Have a wonderful weekend

Shaker Card

Hello! It's Alice here and I am sharing how I make my shaker card with you.

You will need:
Colored image. (I used Enjoying Spring from February release.)
Patterned paper or cardstock of your choice.
A piece of acetate. (Not shown. I recycled a packaging from a die set.)
Dies of your choice.
Dimensional adhesive. (My foam squares are about 1/8" thick.)
Strong adhesive. (I used Glossy Accents.)
Scissors. (Optional, I used it to cut my foam squares to smaller pieces.)
Confetti.

Here is how:

First, die cut the colored image and the acetate using the larger die of your choice. I made a mistake and cut mine with a smaller one, so I matted mine with a piece of cardstock. You want your acetate the same size as your die cut image.

Cut a frame for your image using coordinating dies and patterned paper (or cardstock). The large scalloped circle is just bigger than the circle that I used for my image and acetate. The circle in the photo is one size smaller than the one that I used for my image.

I actually embossed my frame, too. You can use any shape that you want, just make sure that the frame is larger than the die cut image.

Adhere the piece of acetate to the inside (back side) of the frame.

Add dimensional adhesive to the frame. Make sure that there is no gap between the pieces of adhesive to keep the confetti from falling out.

Add confetti to the frame. I save all the little hearts, butterflies and umbrellas whenever I use WoJ's Heart Lace BorderFancy Hearts,  Butterflies and Umbrella border dies. Those little pieces are perfect for this project. There are also some glass glitters in it. BUT, what you see here is way too much confetti. I had to take most of it out just so that they don't block the image. =)

Now you can peel off the backing of all the dimensional adhesive and attach your image to the frame.

And here is the shaker part of the shaker card! =)

Here is a look of my finished card.

This is my first time making a shaker card and it was very fun. Hope you will give it a try! =)

Thanks for stopping by!

hugs,
alice

Easter Pennant

Hi everyone,
Karina here today with a creative idea for you... it is my first tutorial I post here as a new DT member, so I hope it will be something to inspire you. As it is Easter just around the corner I go with an Easter decoration; an Easter Pennant.

What you need:
  • a pair of old jeans
  • cardstock
  • sewing machine
  • twine
  • Whiff of Joy Pennant die cut
  • decorations
First cut out a piece of cardstock or kraft as a pattern. I made it 5,5 inch (14 cm) x 6,5 inch (16,5 cm) x 6,5 inch (16,5 cm). Then put it on one leg of your old jeans.

I used the seam as decoration for the upper part of the pennants. Cut out five pieces of those. Give it some more space on the top for the seam.

Take some twine in the length of 40 inch (100 cm), sew each of those five pennants around the twine that you have a line of five pennants at the end. I also made a zig zag stitching around each pennant. I haven't a photo of this, but when you see the pic of the finished project you will know what is meant.

Then stamp and colour three images and die cut it in a shape you like. I used three different ones, glued them on another shape and sew around.

On the first and last pennants I used the Whiff of Joy Pennant Die Cut to create two small pennants each and sewed them onto those parts.

Then glue the images to the three central pennants and decorate each pennant with flowers, feathers and more as you wish.

Bond two loops on both ends and you're finished. Your pennant is ready to put on your wall or door, just where you want to have it.

My description of making this decoration may not be the best. But I guess while following the images you see how it works. If you have any questions about it just feel free to ask.

Have fun and hugs,
Karina

surprise egg box

Hello everyone!
It's Kathrin here with my very first tutorial over here as a full DT member.

As easter is just around the corner I thought I'd share a tutorial for how to turn a simple surprise egg into a cute little gift just by adding a nice wrapping.
As I know those surprise eggs aren't available everywhere but you can adjust this tutorial easily. I will let you know how at the right step. Till then just follow the instructions step by step.

You need:
cardstock
designer's paper
round spellbinders or punch (or just scissors)
doublesided tape
bone folder
and of course a stamped image

I went with "An Apple For You" here but adjusted it a bit to make it suit for easter. For that I just removed the ink from the apple before stamping the image and drew an easter egg at its place afterwards.

Cut a square piece of cardstock measuring 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" (11,5 x 11,5 cm) and score
each side at 1" (2,5 cm).
Make a cut at the scored lines on two opposite sides of the square until you reach the crossing
scoring line.

Then cut out a hole of ca. 1 5/8" (4 cm) out of the center. I used some round Nestabilities here but you can use whatever you have.
If you are using a different egg than a Kinder surprise egg you might want to try if the egg you are using is fitting into the hole. I had some plastic eggs here as well and those needed a bigger hole.

Next cut a strip of cardstock measuring 2 1/2" (6,5 cm) in width, using the full length of your sheet of cardstock.
Now you need to find the middle of the strip, mark it with a line and score it 1 1/4" (3,25 cm) to both sides of the line. Punch/cut a 1 1/4" (3,2 cm) circle out of the middle of the paper strip. This is where the top of your egg will go through so you might want to try the size of the hole again. If the egg fits in just about 1/4" (0,7 cm) it is fine, it's just to hold the egg so it can't fall out.

Cover both, the square and the strip of cardstock with some patterned paper. It´s enough to cover only two opposite sides of the box since the other ones will be covered from the cardstock strip.

Then  put together the bottom part from the square piece of cardstock as you would put together any kind of box.

If you want to you can now decorate your cardstock strip. Make sure to measure before how long it will be at the end so you don't have to cut off any decoration. You can also do the decorating once the holder is put together, I personally prefer working on a lying piece of cardstock.

Add some tacky tape to the sides of the bottom part that are not covered with designer's paper.
Now place the egg on its place and put the cardstock strip over it. Remove the backing of the tacky tape from one side of the bottom and fix the strip. Since the strip was cut the full length of the cardstock sheet it will fit any egg size. All you need to do now is to cut off the excess part of cardstock.
Repeat this with the other side. I personally prefer to not glue on the other side of the carstock strip so the egg can be taken out without tearing the box/holder. Instead I use some string that I wrap around the bottom after decorating.

And this is what the result can look like:
