Colouring with distress ink- by Janne

Here is my first turtorial for WoJ.

First some facts:

Paper; 300g Canson aquarelle

Bruches ; Springer 0, Panduro size 0 and Italeri size 000

Ink pad; Archival Ink, Jet Black
When I colour I move the paintbrush in small circles. I wipe of some of the water, it must not be to wet.

I always starts colouring the face.

At first I use Vintage photo. I start colouring where it is naturally shaddows, and always along the edge of the face.
Yes, the image is up side down. It`s because I always turn the paper when I do my colouring.

Now I have coloured the face, hands and ears. The I will do it all over again but with the colour ; Tattered rose.

In the cheek I use a mix of Aged Mahogany and Tattered rose

Then I change my paintbrush to Italeri size 000

And then I start with Nora`s hair. I use antique linen. I use it on all of her hair.

Look at the arrow;
I start with Walnut stain in the shaddow area. (This picture is a bit yellow. I blame it on my camera, it`s not that good.)

I continue with walnut stain under her hat, under her ears and cheeks.

I desided that her clothes would be purple; Dusty concord

The hat is finished.

Her eyes are coloured with Stormy sky

Her clothes; I starts under her arms
I used the same colour on her boots

When the image is finished I start colouring some shaddow. I use Black soot.

I start on her hat and use the colour where the shaddow normally is.

Then I colour under her hat, under her cheeks,on her shoulders, under her armes, and some colour on her boots. (Sorry about the yellow picture )

Then I change my brush again and starts making shaddow around her. I use a softer and bigger brush. The colour is Weathered wood.

Under her boots I used Pumice Stone and then the image is finished♥

Here in Norway we have winter holiday so mabye I will have time for some skiing.

Have a nice week.♥

Corner bookmark by Alice

Hello! It's Alice here. I am sharing a simple corner bookmark with you.

I learned the base of this bookmark from a Japanese origami book a while ago. I just dressed it up a bit with a pretty WOJ Secret Spring kit image. Here is how to make the bookmark:

First, take a piece of patterned paper that measures 15cm x 15cm. I am using a piece of Japanese Washi paper. It's about 5-7/8" x 5-7/8", it would be perfectly fine if you want to use a piece of patterned paper that measures 6" x 6".

Fold the piece of paper in half.

Than fold it in half again.

Now you have a little square, fold it one more time diagonally to form a triangle. You don't have to press it really hard, all you need is a fold line.

Open the triangle up.

Separate the top layer from the rest on the loose side.

Fold the rest of the layers into the space in between the top layer and the rest of the layers along the folded line.

And this is what you get! A very simple corner bookmark.

Here is the back of the bookmark.

You can use it as is if you used a pretty piece of paper, but I decided that I would dress it up with the adorable girl image from the soon to be released Spring Secret Kit - Love Bug Collection. You will be able to get these stamps at the Whiff of Joy Store starting March 1st. =)

Here is the bookmarks in use.

Hope you will give this a try!

Thanks for stopping by!

hugs,
alice

Inspiration by colors

Hi there, today it is me Jorunn,
making the posting in the Whiff of Joy tutorial and inspiration blog.

And I have to admit I sometimes hit the wall, when it comes to inspiration....
no matter what card I make, lay out and style, I feel like I am making
the same card over and over again...
Does anyone else feel the same way??

So what to do to get the mojo running again??
I go through so many great blogs...and I see these wonderful creations,
and of course I get inspired by them...

...but I also use google.com to find inspiration...
and I find the most wonderful pictures when googling colors,
and that is what I have done today....

I want to show you what I have found and
how I used it for inspiration on my card....

So today I googled the pharse:
"fresh colors"
and I got sooo many wonderful pictures to inspire me,
and this is the picture I picked...

the picture is from http://inhometrend.com/

So I use the colors in this picture to inspire my card;
Light colors, with some fresh blue and green...

Here is how my card turned out:
For my card I have used a soon to be released new image
from Whiff of Joy.
Some new super cute gnomes will be available in the shop
on March 1st!

If you get inspired by this picture and colors, please leave a link,
I would love to see how you used this picture as inspiration.

Happy googling... !

Making small alterations to a stamped image

Hi everybody!!

It is time for me to do my first tutorial on the Whiff of Joy Inspirations- and Tutorial blog. I wanted to do my first tutorial here on how I make my 3D images (and I know some of you were hoping to see that here today) but I had to change that planning and so today I'll show you how to make small alterations to a stamped image. I promiss my next tutorial will be on my 3D (just need to get myself another camera :( ). I'll start with my finished card... can you see the alteration I did?

10 points if you've seen it! In the original stamp Nora's right hand is before her face and in my card it isn't. Nora was of course just perfect the way she was but with my 3D I love to have the face as the top layer. But you can use this technique for all kinds of things like change the text on a shirt or replace closed eyes by open ones... just let your imagination run free. Now what do you need to get this done:

The original stamp of course Nora with Ducks and Umbrella, a piece of paper towel and a little water to get it damp, your normal paper to stamp on, your ink and your glass plate and fineliners that are suitable for coloring with your Copics (or whatever product you are coloring with). What isn't on the picture but what I did use is a light box (hope that's the right word, you'll see it on a picture later on).

Now first you want to ink your stamp up like you always do.

Next you take a tip of your paper towel, make sure its damp and gently remove the ink on the part of the stamp you want to alter.

Stamp (I'm sure you didn't need this picture :) ).

Et voila; your stamped image but with a white part in the middle.

Now you can of course make the alterations to your stamped image by hand but it's easier to do it this way if you have a light box. Make another impression of the stamp, this time as it should be, and tape that to your light box.

Take your stamped image that you want to alter, put your light box on and tape it over stamped image you had already taped in place, making sure the lines are on top of each other like you see in the picture.

Now with the fineliner you first make the alteration you want to make and next you trace the lines from the "finished" stamped image making sure you have a finished but altered image to color.

Here is the close up of my altered, colored and 3D paper pieced image.
And a picture from the inside of the card, I found the sentiment somewhere on the internet. Lovely Nora with the Ducks is for sale HERE if you want to give this technique a go. The paper used on the inside is from the Whiff of Joy Paperpad Fruhlingserwachen and the die used on the front of the image is Fancy Hearts Border Die, also by Whiff of Joy.
I hope you enjoyed my tutorial and that you will give this technique a try! Have fun!

Fun in the snow by tanjaak

Hello all! I'm here today to share with you a technique called cracked glass...I know it has been shown even here before but it is such a cool technique that I think it deserves to be shown yet again. You may have come across this tutorial before if you read the russian magazine Scrap-Info (my first published work ever Wooohooo!)

You  will need these materials to make this project: the stamp: Penguins Winter Fun, ink , paper and colouring medium of your choice, white, brown and kraft cardstock and dp´s, adhesive, embellishments (in this case paper flowers and brads), watermark ink pad, UTEE, plastic tub, tweezers, heating tool, distress ink and a Cuttlebug or other diecutting machine and some oval dies. This technique is based on quick cooling of the UTEE so you should remember to try this technique in a place where there is a freezer. Stamp your image onto white heavyweight paper according to your colouring medium.

Cut your stamped image into an oval shape, also cut a scalloped oval from brown cardstock to go under your image

Colour your image.

Apply watermark ink all over your image, place it into a plastic tub and pour UTEE into the tub covering the whole image. Tap of any excess UTEE.

Start to heat with a heating tool. Hold your image in place with tweezers or with the tip of your scissors and remember that UTEE gets really hot as it melts. Continue heating (should take only seconds) until your UTEE has completely melted. Repeat this procedure at least three times and put the image now into a freezer for about 5 minutes.

Your image should be curled up when you take it out of the freezer.

Twist and brake the UTEE until you are satisfied with the end result, you can always melt the UTEE again and start over if you are not happy with the way it has cracked.

Apply some distress ink to make the grooves and cracks more visible.

It´s time to assemble the card!

And here's my finished creation. This image is really perfect for this time of the year. Now it's time to hit the slopes!...or just stay in and get creative with your WoJ stamps!

Thanks for looking!

Treat box - by Åsa

Hi there everyone, Åsa here! Today I thought that we would make a little Treat Box together.

I´ve used:12"x12" patterned paper
Cardstock
Stamp: For my Tweetheart
Disress ink
Adhesive tape
Punch
Sewing machine
Spellbinders die
Decorations/Embellishments

Start to draw and cut out a circle from your patterned paper that is approximately 8½" wide.
Then score it with a bone folder for the dimensions as in the picture below.

Then continue to cut after the red lines, then it should look like this:

Before I glue it together I ink all the edges with Distress ink - Vintage photo.

Then I sew with my sewing machine around the back and the front:

Then I use adhesive tape to stick it together:

Fold in the side flaps and carefully align and stick the front flap on to the side flaps.
The base for the treat box is ready and it should look like this!

I like to take some papperfrills and stuff it into the box. It makes it look a little bit more I think.
I make the paperfrills myself by taking a piece of cardstock and run it true my crimper and then cut it into thin strips.

Then I take all the strips and crunch them in my hand a bit.
Now they are ready to fill the Treat Box.
So - the only thing left is the really fun and easy part - to stick your motif on and decorate it!
Here´s the final result of my Treat Box!

So have lots of fun making your own Treat Box!
